Mohawk Mountain Race
The Mohawk Mountain Race takes place at the Mohawk Mountain Ski Area in Cornwall, Connecticut. Held during the autumn season, the event utilizes the ski resort's terrain, transforming winter slopes into a trail running venue with views of the fall foliage. The course features a variety of terrain including steep ascents and descents on the ski mountain, with longer distances extending into the rolling trails of the Mohawk State Forest.
Participants can choose from four distinct distance options:
- 5 km (approx. 1332 feet of elevation)
- 10 km (approx. 2664 feet of elevation)
- Half Marathon (approx. 3169 feet of elevation)
- Marathon (approx. 6338 feet of elevation)
The 5 km and 10 km races are held on a loop that traverses several ski trails, including the Wildwood, Timber, Pine, and Laurel trails, reaching the summit twice per loop. The Half Marathon and Marathon distances include this loop plus additional mileage on the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails within the Mohawk State Forest.
The event follows a cupless policy to reduce waste; runners must carry their own hydration systems such as bottles or packs. Water and electrolyte drinks are provided at the start/finish area and at designated aid stations in the state forest for the longer distances. Finishers receive a specially designed medal and pre-packaged food at the post-race celebration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
