Endurance Runs in Dubuque
The Miner 49er is an annual trail running event held at the Mines of Spain in Dubuque, Iowa. The race utilizes a variety of terrain including single track, double track, and prairie trails. The course is designed as a 25 km out and back route, which participants in the longer distance complete twice.
Available race distances include:
- 25 km with approximately 2,200 feet of elevation gain.
- 50 km with approximately 4,400 feet of elevation gain.
The route features several natural landmarks and scenic points, including the Julien Dubuque Monument, Horseshoe Bluff, and views of the Mississippi River. Runners navigate technical elements such as stone steps, stream crossings, and standard trail obstacles like rocks and roots.
The course includes three aid stations stocked with standard nutrition for endurance events. As the race takes place in a public park, the trails remain open to non-race traffic. The event has a designated cutoff time of 5:00 PM for both distances. Registration must be completed in advance as there is no same-day registration available. No pacers are permitted for either distance.
Packet pickup is scheduled at the EB Lyons Interpretive Center on Bellevue Heights Road the evening before the race and on the morning of the event.
