MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
The event is a 36-mile ultra that follows the official Esk Valley Way from Castleton to Whitby Harbour. The route traces the River Esk from its upland origin to the coast and passes through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, the remains of Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge, and Grosmont. Total ascent is listed as 4,054.
The race is fully tracked and open trackers are supplied. There are five manned checkpoints along the route: The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge (6.5 miles), Westerdale (11 miles), Castleton cricket pitch (15 miles), Ley Hall Lealhome (23 miles, drop-bag collection point), and a farm yard (30 miles); checkpoints provide food and drink and some have toilet facilities. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hats and gloves (buff allowed), capacity to carry at least 500 ml of fluid, a fully charged phone, a survival bag, and a whistle. First aid cover and first aid kits are available at checkpoints. Parking is available at the start and in Whitby; the route follows villages on the Esk Valley train line so there is an option to return by train. Finishers receive a medal; podium prizes and optional apparel are also offered. Minimum entry age is 20 years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
