MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
This event is a fully tracked ultra running race that follows the official Esk Valley Way from its upland source to the sea. The route covers 36 miles with an ascent listed as 4,054 and starts in Castleton, finishing at Whitby Harbour beneath the abbey ruins.
The course passes through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont. Marker tape and Esk Valley Way signage are used where needed; GPX, Strava and premium OpenTracking GPS routes are available for navigation and live tracking.
There are five staffed checkpoints along the course offering food and drink, and toilet facilities are either at checkpoints or in nearby villages. One checkpoint serves as a drop bag collection point. Start and finish areas provide hot drinks; the finish also includes food options and a finisher medal. Event support includes first aid cover, first aid kits at checkpoints and race trackers to monitor location.
Transport options include coach transfer from the finish to the start for those who book it and the Esk Valley train line, which serves villages along the route and can be used to return to start or finish. Parking is available at the start and in Whitby. Mandatory kit items are required, including a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hats and gloves, capacity to carry 500ml fluid, a survival bag, whistle, and a fully charged phone with organiser contact.
