About the race
The Mendip Muddle is a 20km multi terrain fell race over varied Mendip country with approximately 420 m of climb. The route passes Roman lead mines, underground rivers, a nature reserve, open moorland, potholes, an ancient rabbit warren, an Iron Age fort, deciduous and conifer forest and prehistoric tumuli. Race headquarters are at the Charterhouse Centre, Charterhouse-on-Mendip, Blagdon, Bristol, BS40 7XR (OS grid reference 502558). The event raises money for charities; the nominated charity for 2026 is Avon Somerset Search and Rescue.
The race is run under FRA regulations and is categorised as a CL fell race. GPS enabled devices are not permitted and dogs are not allowed. Facilities include drinks stations at approximately 5 km, 10 km and 15 km, First Aid on the course and at the finish, and toilet facilities at race headquarters; there are no changing rooms. Water will be available at the finish and runners are encouraged to bring reusable bottles.
Car parking is limited and there are currently no plans to offer refreshments. Entries cost £18 in advance and £20 on the day; entries close at midnight on 24 October. Transfers between individuals are allowed up to one week before the event; entries are not refundable except in the case of cancellation when a refund or a deferred entry option is offered. Registration on the morning of the race is compulsory and race numbers are issued at registration.
In adverse conditions marshals may be withdrawn after 3 hours 30 and remaining runners asked to return to race HQ. Prizes are awarded to the first three men and first three women and to leading veterans in several age categories with one prize per winner; each competitor receives a race memento.
