Marysville Marathon Festival
The Marysville Marathon Festival is a two-day trail running event in Marysville, Victoria, with race activity centred on Gallipoli Park and routes that start and finish in the town. Courses run through valley trails and forest tracks and follow sections of the Steavenson River, including approaches to Steavenson Falls.
The course features towering trees, fern gullies, crystal clear rivers, waterfalls, mountain lookout sections and a mix of steep climbs and technical descents. Longer distances include more sustained mountain climbs with panoramic views from the top, while shorter courses use nearby forest tracks and valley trails.
Race distances include:
- 1.5 km Kids Dash
- 4 km short trail run
- 7 km KQOM
- 10 km trail run
- 14 km KQOM
- 21 km trail race
- 42 km trail marathon
- 50 km ultra trail
- 100 km endurance ultramarathon
The festival was created after the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires to encourage visitors to return, support local businesses and volunteer groups, and help the town rebuild. It is held as an annual community event and forms the fifth and final race in the Trailsplus Mountain Series. Trailsplus donates one dollar from every participant entry to Canteen, and the series has contributed more than $90,000 to Canteen Victoria.
