Manchester Backyard Ultra : event overview

Manchester Backyard Ultra is an endurance-format running event held at Giants Seat Scout Camp in Radcliffe, Manchester on 12 June 2027. The event uses the Backyard Ultra format: runners complete loops of 4.167 miles (6.7056 km) each hour and must finish each loop within the hour. Any unused time within the hour is recovery time. The sequence continues until only one competitor remains and then completes one final loop alone to be declared the winner. There is no predetermined finish distance or time.

The Manchester course is an out and back route that is fully marked with signs and supported by marshals. All routes in the series use fluorescent caution signs and directional arrows to guide runners. Compulsory kit includes a head torch, chest torch, or waist torch, and night-time high visibility clothing is strongly recommended.

Race rules specify that competitors must not deviate from the course during a loop except for toilet breaks, no personal aid is permitted while on a loop, and artificial aids such as trekking poles are not allowed. Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass. Failing to complete a loop within the hour results in a DNF.

Included for Manchester participants are an entry ticket, participant medal, a winner trophy and medal, limited rest marquee and pitch space, parking for one car with visitor parking on a first come, first served basis, hot showers, hot and cold water, drinks and snacks, and event photography. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
