Mad Meadows : Evergreen Trail Runs
Mad Meadows is a high-elevation trail race near Leavenworth, Washington, organized as two distance options: 50K and 50M. The course runs along alpine ridgelines and through stands of golden larches, with views east into the Entiat River Valley and west toward Clark Mountain and Dakobed (Glacier Peak). The route reaches over 7000 ft at its highest point and features a mix of smooth single track, long technical sections, steep climbs, pumice slopes from an ancient eruption, and talus fields with old-growth larch.
The event is staged from Grouse Creek Group Campground on Chiwawa River Road. The course is remote; aid stations supply standard ultra fare including PB&J, gummies, gels, electrolyte drinks, and hot food at some locations. Mad Meadows aid station is hike-in and offers only simple items. Drop bag locations and crew access differ by distance; crew may meet runners at Rock Creek, Basalt, Chikamin, and Entiat aid stations. Pacers are not allowed.
Required gear:
- 50K: light rain/wind jacket, 1 L water capacity, course GPS on phone or watch.
- 50M: headlamp, light rain/wind jacket, 2 L water capacity, course GPS on phone or watch.
Elevation gain: 50K about 7000 ft; 50M about 11,000 ft. The Oct 10, 2026 edition was canceled due to the Little Giant Fire; organizers offered registration rollover and transfer options.
