Mad Meadows 50
Mad Meadows is a trail running event near Leavenworth, Washington on October 10, 2026. The event offers two distances and runs on remote, high elevation terrain with a variety of trail types.
- 50K - 7000 ft elevation gain
- 50M - 11,000 ft elevation gain
The course reaches over 7000 ft at its highest point and includes alpine ridgelines, single track along the Mad River, pumice slopes, talus fields, and sections of old-growth larch. Runners will see views east into the Entiat River Valley and west toward Clark Mountain and Dakobed (Glacier Peak). The route has long technical sections, steep climbs, smooth single track, and some flowing descents.
Both distances start on Chiwawa River Road. The 50K turns toward the Minnow Creek trails and rejoins the 50M at Basalt Aid Station. The 50M follows Chiwawa River Road for an initial 7 mile stretch, climbs to Basalt Pass, traverses Garland Ridge and Chikamin Ridge, passes through Mad Meadows, and returns along single track beside Chiwawa River Road to finish at Grouse Creek Group Campground.
Operational notes from the organizer mention that the Little Giant Fire has prompted a closure that currently affects the course; officials will consult the USFS before confirming the route. The race is cupless; participants must carry a refillable container. Required gear differs by distance and includes a light rain or wind jacket and downloaded course GPS. Aid stations provide typical ultra fare; Basalt and Chikamin offer hot food. Drop bags, crew access points, pacer rules, and youth race details are specified by the organizer.
