Machlud Sunset Trail Race
Machlud is a sunset trail half marathon around the Clwydian Hills that finishes with a high level section on the slopes of Moel Famau. The course runs above the Vale of Clwyd, joins the Offa’s Dyke footpath and passes Foel Fenlli before reaching Moel Famau. The route covers just over a full half marathon distance of 21.4 km (13.3 miles) and includes approximately 750 m (2500 ft) of ascent, with the majority of climbing in the final 10 km.
The event is based at Ysgol y Foel school hall and field, with parking planned nearby and food and drinks available at the finish. There are three main aid checkpoints where water refills and snacks are provided, with water also available at a fourth checkpoint. All runners scan timing bands at six checkpoints along the course.
Canicross entries are accepted. The route mostly follows good tracks and paths but includes some stiles and steeper sections that may require walking. Runners are asked to carry mandatory kit including a headtorch, whistle, refillable drink bottle or collapsible cup, foil bivvy bag, appropriate fell or trail shoes and waterproof outer layers if required. Mobile phones, personal nutrition and any specific dog food are advised as additional equipment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
