Machete Muertos 200
The Machete Muertos 200 is a multi-distance trail running event held at Lake Perris, California. The event takes place in late October and early November, coinciding with the Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday. The competition features several distance options:
- 200 Miler: A technical course with over 44,000 feet of elevation gain and a 96-hour cutoff.
- 100 Miler: A distance featuring cash prizes for the top three overall finishers.
- 50 Miler: A multi-lap race on a 10-mile loop.
- 20 Mile Ruck Division: A rucking challenge requiring 20 lbs for females and 30 lbs for males.
- 10 Miler: A single-lap run on the 10-mile course.
The courses consist of loops that return to the campground transition area. The 10-mile loop includes 2,300 feet of elevation gain per lap. The 20-mile loop, used for the longer distances and the ruck division, travels around the entire lake and includes 4,500 feet of elevation gain. Fully stocked aid stations are positioned along the routes, including points at mile 6, 8, and 13 depending on the distance.
The event is held at Group Picnic C within the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. Registration includes access to a group tent campground for participants and their families, as well as professional race photos. Pacers are permitted for the 50 Miler, 100 Miler, and 200 Miler after runners reach specific mileage markers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
