Lynn Valley Adventure Run

This orienteering event uses a Rogaine/Score-O format with SI electronic scoring and mass starts in two timed options. The objective is to collect the maximum number of points within a set time by visiting controls that each have a fixed point value. Late returns reduce the point total by 20 points per minute. Solo participants incur a 10% score penalty compared with teams.

Course options

  • 3 hour
  • 6 hour

The event will offer a remote start accessed by bus from Parkgate Park and will also allow starts from the finish location. The map in use, "Super SeyLynn", covers Mosquito Creek to Deep Cove at 1:15000 scale with 5 m contours and incorporates sections of nearby maps. Terrain on the North Shore includes trails and roads near the start and finish and more technical forest areas further away; forests are often fairly open for local standards and the area features notable elevation gain.

Youth participants aged 12 and older may compete as small teams. Teams and family entries are permitted, with defined team fee levels separate from single entries. All competitors must pre-register, be GVOC members or obtain the required day membership, and carry a whistle. Participants should be self-sufficient for their chosen course, carry food and water especially for the longer option, consider bear awareness and spray as appropriate, avoid crossing rivers except on bridges, and be cautious near water and on trails where mountain bikers may be present. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
