Lyke Wake Challenge

The Lyke Wake Challenge is a point to point trail event of just over 40 miles that follows the classic Lyke Wake route. The 2027 Challenge will take place on Saturday 10th July; the event traditionally runs on the second Saturday in July and the 2028 date is 8th July. Entries are via SiEntries and will open early 2027.

The event is run on a handicap basis using previous Lyke Wake times or participant estimated times. The route is not marked and all participants are expected to be familiar with the classic route. The maximum allowed time to complete the event is twelve hours including the handicap. Participants must be 21 or over on the day.

There are seven checkpoints providing drinks and most offering snacks; the Lion Inn checkpoint, just before halfway, supplies additional food such as rice pudding or tinned fruit. Radio communications between checkpoints are provided by volunteer Raynet operators. Plastic cups are not supplied at checkpoints so a drink container is mandatory.

A full mandatory kit check is carried out at registration and random checks may be made en route. Required items include a suitable paper map, waterproof jacket, whistle, emergency foil blanket, at least 300 ml drink, emergency food, a drinks container and a fully charged mobile phone. The finish is in the grounds of Grand Villa Heights Raven Hall where commemorative technical t shirts are given to finishers and trophies awarded for leading finishers. Donations from each entry support local mountain rescue teams and other charities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
