Lundy Island Race : Sunday 18 July 2027
The Lundy Island Race is a trail event held on Lundy Island covering 14 miles of island tracks and paths. The route visits the North Lighthouse, traverses undulating eastern and western clifftops, runs along the central spine of the island and includes a number of sidetracks and steep slopes. The course will be fully marked and marshalled, with first aid on course and at race headquarters. Aid stations are provided at both ends of the island, including at the North Lighthouse.
A chartered vessel, the MS Oldenburg, is used for the Raceboat option and has capacity for 250 runners; when the boat is full the Raceboat option is closed. Each Raceboat entrant receives a day return trip aboard the MS Oldenburg. The only other entry route is to make independent travel arrangements on the scheduled island service and book a non Raceboat entry, which may require staying on the island in a campsite or rented cottage.
Registration takes place at race headquarters on the village green near the Marisco Tavern, which also serves as the race start and finish. Every finisher receives a Lundy Island Race medal. The minimum age for both Raceboat and non Raceboat entries is 17 years. The event is run under England Athletics rules and holds a permit issued by the Trail Running Association.
A mandatory kit list is enforced. Required items include the capacity to carry 250 ml of water, trail shoes, a back or waist pack, head cover, waterproof jacket, foil blanket and a mobile phone. Failure to carry required kit may prevent starting or may lead to disqualification.
