Loess Dirt Adventure Run - Glenwood, Iowa

The Loess Dirt Adventure Run takes place at Glenwood Lake Park in Glenwood, Iowa on September 5, 2026. The event is presented as an untimed, adventure-focused trail experience across the Loess Hills.

The route begins with nearly two miles of scenic switchback trails, rolling hills and panoramic overlooks that pass through open grasslands and tree canopies. The course then moves into more rugged terrain with wooded sections, creek crossings and natural trail obstacles.

  • nearly 2 miles scenic switchback trails and panoramic overlooks
  • 1.5 miles rugged wooded trails with creek crossings and steep sections

Trail conditions can change with weather; rain within three days of the event may make the Loess soil slick and unpredictable. Organizers plan rope assists for difficult sections, safety support along the course and a finish-line spray station for cleaning after the run. The course also includes bonus challenges and features climbs, slippery descents and natural obstacles typical of Loess Hills terrain.

The event is untimed and emphasizes the outdoor experience. Every finisher receives a "Conqueror of the Loess" medallion as a record of completion. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
