The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra

The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra is an off-road coastal event organised by Bys Vyken Events, based at the Sunset Surf Cafe in Gwithian (TR27 5ED). The routes follow the coastpath and visit multiple lighthouses.

The marathon route runs from Pendeen past a lighthouse and along the coastpath to Godrevy lighthouse, around 26 miles in length. The ultra starts at Land's End, Longships Lighthouse, covers the initial 10 miles to join at Pendeen Lighthouse and then continues for a further 25 miles to the finish.

Terrain includes mud, water crossings and a mix of rocks, sand and tarmac. The course has large climbs and dunes, with stated elevation gain of over 4000 feet for the main event and an additional 1800 feet for the ultra. Organisers note likely wet weather and variable light conditions; a generous cut-off time means many runners may finish after dark and will need to pass the lighthouse lighting.

Entry options include affiliated and non-affiliated marathon and ultra categories with different entry fees. Refunds are allowed up to four weeks before the event and deferrals up to two weeks before; deferrals cannot be refunded at the subsequent race. New ARC guidelines require ultra entrants to be aged 20 or over. The event holds ARC permit ARC/27 and may be cancelled or moved to a virtual format if an Amber or Red Met Office weather warning is issued. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
