The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra : Gwithian, Cornwall
The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra is a coastal running event organised by Bys Vyken Events on Saturday 6 November 2027, based at Sunset Surf Cafe, Gwithian TR27 5ED. The event holds an ARC permit (ARC/27/) and includes affiliated and non affiliated entry categories and separate Ultra entries.
Distances
- Marathon: 26 miles along the coast from Pendeen to Godrevy lighthouse.
- Ultra: 10 miles from Longships Lighthouse to Pendeen, then 25 miles more to the finish.
The course follows coastal paths and includes mixed surfaces: rocks, sand and tarmac, plus mud and water crossings. There are large climbs and dunes with over 4,000 feet of total ascent on the main routes; the Ultra has an additional 1,800 feet of climb. Cut off times are generous, which may mean some competitors finish in the dark near the lighthouse lighting.
Entry and rules: New ARC guidelines require Ultra entrants to be aged 20 or over. Crew are allowed but support runners are not permitted on course. Refunds are available up to four weeks before the event; entries may be deferred up to two weeks before the event but deferrals cannot be refunded at the subsequent race.
Safety and changes: If the Met Office issues an Amber or Red weather warning the race may be cancelled, rescheduled or held virtually. Participants are required to be medically able, properly trained and equipped and to accept the event risks and organiser decisions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
