Leeds & Liverpool Canal 130 Mile Race (LLCR)
The Leeds & Liverpool Canal Race is a non-stop 130 miles footrace along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath, running from Old Hall Street in Liverpool to Office Lock in Leeds. The event is held under UK Athletics rules and with permission of the Canal & River Trust.
Entry is open to competitors aged 20 or over. The event has a maximum field of 125 runners on a first come, first served basis and offers supported and unsupported entry categories. The organisers can accommodate a limited number of Unsupported runners and recommend that participants bring their own support crew where possible. Aid and drink points are provided roughly every 10–15 miles; specific feed points for Unsupported runners are located at miles 14, 25, 40, 54, 70, 84, 99, 113 and 127.
There is a 40 hour time limit for completing the full distance. Competitors must complete the route on foot, keep to the towpath where possible, and follow checkpoint cutoffs. Required kit includes a mobile phone switched on for Race HQ contact, a whistle, a survival blanket, a torch or headlamp with spares for night running, and reflective clothing on road sections. Unsupported entrants must limit kit bag weight (maximum 15 kg) and label bags clearly; buddy runners are permitted on foot only from mile 54 and must not act as pacers or carry supplies.
Awards include perpetual and Canalware trophies for first men and women, certificates and finisher mementos. Course records stand at 20:02 for men and 24:19 for women. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
