Las Vegas Turkey Trot
The Las Vegas Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day running event that uses the Historic Railroad Trail in the Lake Mead Recreation Area. The event runs along an old railroad line and passes through the Six Tunnels en route to Hoover Dam. The course offers views of Lake Mead and terrain specific to the historic trail.
The event is now in its 20th year and offers multiple distance options:
- Half marathon
- 12K
- 5K
- 1 mile
Racing is USATF sanctioned. Courses are described as accurately measured and clearly marked, with reliable, accurate results. Participants receive a race bib, shirt, and a finisher medal; the finisher medal often depicts Hoover Dam. Awards are given to the top three overall finishers and in ten-year age groups, and there are custom overall awards and age group prizes. Post-race snacks are provided.
Packet pick-up is available the day before at a local Trek Bicycles location in Henderson and on race day at the Historic Railroad Hiking Trail parking area in Boulder City. The event references lodging and sponsors and lists different pricing tiers by registration date for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
