Land and Lakes Relay
The Land and Lakes Relay is a team relay covering a total of 61 miles from Warren Wilson College in East Asheville to Fonta Flora Brewery-Whippoorwhill Farm near Lake James. Teams consist of four to six runners who split the course into numbered legs, with each runner completing either two or three legs depending on team size and chosen format.
The route travels east from East Asheville through Swannanoa, into Black Mountain, around Lake Tomahawk, along much of the Geyser Growl Half Marathon course into Old Fort, through downtown Marion, and into the Lake James area before the finish at Fonta Flora.
Registration opens July 1. Entry fees vary by date: $450 per team (July 1 to September 30), $500 per team (October 1 to January 31, 2027), and $550 per team (February 1 to race day). The field is capped at 50 teams. The minimum age to participate is 18.
Teams are expected to be self supporting; restrooms are available at transfer points but teams must carry their own fluids and food. Safety rules require reflective vests and head lamps during early morning running, and flashing front and rear lights are recommended. Transfer points are used for team check in and timing; each team is issued a timing bib with a chip. Post race activities take place at Fonta Flora Brewery and include a post race party and a free beer for participants age 21 and over.
