Lake District Running Festival

The event is based at Keswick School, Vicarage Hill, Keswick CA12 5QB and features mountain trail races that pass Derwent Water and return to Keswick.

Two distances are offered:

  • 53 km, 2,644 m elevation gain, mountain trail, minimum age 20, UTMB index 50K
  • 23 km, 895 m elevation gain, mountain trail, minimum age 17, UTMB index 20K

The 53 km route passes Derwent Water, goes through Seathwaite, ascends Scafell Pike, drops into Wasdale, skirts Kirk Fell, passes Honister Pass, summits High Spy and descends Catbells back to Keswick. The 23 km route passes Derwent Water and Menesty, ascends High Spy, then descends Catbells to the base camp.

Aid stations are fully stocked with water, electrolytes or sports drink, coke, fruit, sweets, salty snacks, energy bars and some energy gels. Each aid station includes water, electrolytes, coke, fruit and snacks with gels at select stations. The event is cupless; participants should bring a cup or soft flask.

Facilities at the race village include bag drop, portaloos, food and snacks, finish aid station, hot drinks and a kit stall. All races use chip timing with online results posted shortly after. Walking poles are permitted. Headphone use is discouraged; open ear or bone conducting headphones are allowed provided announcements can be heard. A mandatory pre race briefing is held before each start and bib collection is from the event village on race morning.
