La Jornada de Las Quebradadas
La Jornada de Las Quebradadas is a trail ultramarathon held by the Socorro Trail Running Series on Saturday, February 13, 2027. The course is listed as 32 miles with about 3,300 feet of elevation gain and features desert singletrack, double track, dirt roads, and 4WD tracks.
The race begins at a small pullout off the Quebradas backcountry byway. The access road is generally drivable in most sedans though some washboard exists; carpooling is encouraged and Escondida bridge park is noted as a carpool meeting location. If the start pullout is full, nearby pullouts within 0.5 miles may accommodate additional vehicles.
Runners start with 7.5 miles of single and double track through arroyos and limestone outcrops, reaching the Byway aid station at mile 7.5. After a short dirt-road section and a 4WD track, a marked junction near mile 11 begins a counterclockwise loop; runners are instructed to turn RIGHT at this junction. The route passes through the Arroyo de la Parida, two yellow gates (one difficult to open), and an opening in a barbed wire fence before a runnable stretch leading to Johnson Hill aid station around mile 17. A short sandy climb leads to a ridge, then the course returns toward the Byway aid station and finishes with the final 7.5 miles back to the start area.
Course markings use ribbons and periodic confidence markers. Aid stations are described as minimal but adequate, offering water and snacks; runners are advised to carry any specialized drink mixes or gels they use. A portion of race profits supports Socorro High School cross country and local trail maintenance. Registration fee is $95; participants receive a meal from the food truck Cubish, event photos, and an event shirt (shirt availability is guaranteed for those who register before February 1). Awards for first place in each category include a $50 REI gift card and a customized trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
