About the race

The K2PD is a point to point trail race held in August between Kuranda and Port Douglas. The principal event is a non certified 64 km solo trail race with a team relay option over 64 km for teams of 2-4 runners.

The course starts near the Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road and the Bump track to Port Douglas. The route passes through native rainforest, open eucalypt forest and pine plantations, crosses creeks, and lies within Mowbray National Park inside the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Black Mountain is a prominent landmark on the course and the rainforest is habitat for the endangered southern cassowary.

Event information provided for competitors includes a competitor info pack, race rules, support crew information and safety guidance for running trails in Far North Queensland. A course map and a GPX file are available. Transport notes state the start is about a 30 minute drive from Cairns Esplanade/CBD, there is street parking at the start and transport is available to the start line and back to cars parked at Smithfield Shopping Centre.

The race began in 2011 and maintains records and past results for solo and relay competitions, including versions of the course run as approximately 60 km in some years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
