Krewe de Loops 36 Backyard Ultra
Krewe de Loops 36 is a 36-hour, backyard-style endurance event held at Eightfold Farms in Benton, Louisiana. The format is simple and repetitive: participants complete a 3.2 mile loop every hour, on the hour, for as many hours as they choose up to 36 hours. The event uses a horn to mark the start of each loop and a starting corral where runners must be present when the horn sounds.
To remain in the challenge, participants must complete the 3.2 mile loop before the next hour begins, be inside the starting corral when the horn sounds, begin each loop with the remaining group, and check out with race officials when they stop. Missing the cutoff or failing to answer the horn ends a participant’s run. Each completed loop is recorded and counts toward the participant’s total. There is no minimum distance required to consider a participant’s effort a success. At the target loop distance, maintaining a roughly 18:45 per mile pace will allow completion of each loop within the hour.
Distances mapped to loops include:
- 1 loop - 3.2 miles (5K)
- 2 loops - 6.4 miles (10K)
- 6 loops - 19.2 miles
- 9 loops - 28.8 miles (marathon plus)
- 12 loops - 38.4 miles
- 18 loops - 57.6 miles
- 24 loops - 76.8 miles
- 30 loops - 96 miles
- 36 loops - 115.2 miles
A Mini Krewe 3.2 mile event is offered for ages 4 to 11; those young runners take the first 3.2 mile loop alongside the ultra participants. The event carries a Mardi Gras theme described as Mardi Gras meets Backyard Ultra. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
