Knickerbocker Canyon Trail Run
The Knickerbocker Canyon Trail Run is a set of trail races held in the Auburn and Cool, California area on sections of the historic Western States trail. Courses run out to No Hands Bridge, include single-track along the banks and canyons of the American River, and climb notable sections called K2 and the Dam Hill switchbacks. The event uses American River Canyon Overlook Park and nearby trail corridors.
Distances offered:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half Marathon
- 35K
The 35K distance has a published time limit of 6.5 hours. Total race capacity across all distances is 400 entrants. Aid stations provide a range of foods and beverages including energy gels, chews, Stroopwafels, trail mix, pretzels, chips, cookies, soda, water, Skratch Labs hydration mix, PB&J sandwiches, fruit, and salt tablets; they also carry basic first aid items but do not supply anti-inflammatory medicine. Runners are advised to carry at least one 20 oz bottle because aid station spacing varies.
Shirts for the event use a District Perfect-Tri tri-blend performance fabric with UPF 30 and moisture-wicking features. To guarantee a shirt and size a registration deadline is noted in event materials.
Entry fees are non-refundable; a credit equal to 50% of the original fee may be issued if cancellation occurs at least three weeks before the event, and credits expire after one year. Awards include custom trophies for top three overall finishers per distance, special items for top finishers, custom finisher medals, a Dead Last Finisher award, and age-group medals awarded three deep for male, female, and non-binary categories.
