Race overview
The Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run is a 30 mile foot race along the Baden-Powell Centennial Trail from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Deep Cove in North Vancouver, British Columbia. The route crosses the mountains of Metro Vancouver’s North Shore and provides city, mountain and ocean views.
The course climbs about 8,000 feet and descends about 8,300 feet in total. The first climb at Eagle Bluffs gains 900 m in under 5 km. The event is aimed at runners with some experience in trail or endurance events.
The race began in 1989 with eight participants and grew quickly; by 1994 the entry limit of 125 runners was reached five months before race day. A lottery is now used to select an expanded field of 262 runners.
The event is produced by the Northshore Ultra Trailrunning Society, a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia. Since inception the race has raised 204,000 dollars for various charities. Event information also cites logistical support including aid stations, drop bag service, a shuttle to the start line, finish-line parking, and a race banquet and awards ceremony.
