About the race
Great Owl Running stages two linked races at Kirkstall Bridge Inn on 23 January 2027. One is a trail race of about 16 km that follows the Leeds Liverpool Canal, runs beside the River Aire and passes through Calverley Cutting. The other is the Kirkstall Bridge 10 km, a fast, flat out and back route on the canal towpath.
Registration and race headquarters are at Kirkstall Bridge Inn, 12 Bridge Rd, Leeds LS5 3BW. The course will be fully marked and marshalled at key locations. Organisers note that ongoing flood relief works along the River Aire may require a course diversion; any change will be decided close to the race date.
Distances
- ~16 km trail on canal towpath, riverside trail and the Calverley Cutting
- ~10 km fast flat out and back on the canal towpath
Additional race details: approximate elevation is ~200 m for the 16 km and ~60 m for the 10 km. Navigation is provided by course markings and marshals. A water refill point with cups is provided at the turnaround on the 10 km only; entrants must bring their own water container because the event is cupless. Facilities at the HQ include toilets and bag storage. Entry is limited to 250 runners and the age limit is 18+.
