Kingwood Ultras
Kingwood Ultras is a multi-day trail event held at Horseshoe Bend Park near Frenchtown, New Jersey. The course uses a two mile loop that winds through forest and open field, crosses small streams, and includes wooden bridges. Each lap gains about 300 feet of elevation and features roots and rocks underfoot, so trail shoes are recommended.
The short loop returns runners to a single central Base Camp every two miles. That Base Camp serves as the main aid station and a personal camp area for each runner. The aid station offers standard ultra fare such as fruit, cookies, candy, chips, PB&J, potatoes, water, sports drink, and soda, plus served breakfast, lunch, and dinner across the weekend. Each registered runner receives a 10' x 10' Base Camp space with nearby parking and access to porta potties. Limited indoor style sleeping cots are available on a first come, first served basis. The event is cup free, so runners must bring their own bottle, cup, or hydration pack.
The route is marked at night with glow sticks and reflective ribbons, and mileage markers appear every quarter mile. Awards include one of a kind wood based finisher pieces and handcrafted belt buckles for longer distance finishers made from reclaimed course wood. A portion of registration fees supports Friends of Horseshoe Bend Park.
