About the race
Kingfisher Challenge is a six hour multi-lap running event organised by Big Bear Events at Coombe Abbey Park, Coventry. The park is managed by Coventry City Council and lies on the outskirts of Coventry; it is about six minutes from Junction 2 of the M6 and the nearest train station is Coventry. Parking on site costs up to £5 depending on how long a vehicle stays.
A cafe and a toilet block are located next to the event headquarters. The course is made up of 3.3 mile laps. Participants may complete as many laps as they wish within the six hour time limit; examples given by the organiser are four laps for a half marathon and eight laps for a marathon. Finishers can collect a medal and event refreshments are provided. The route is mostly on stone pathways with a meadow section on open grassland that could be muddy depending on recent weather.
Expect hard surfaces and substantial tree cover. A GPX of the route is available, though the route may be subject to last minute changes and will be waymarked on the day. Dogs are permitted for canicross with short leads; canicross participants should register in the canicross category. The event is also listed as suitable for rucking. Pricing varies by entry date; examples given are before 11/06/2025 £37 and after that date £42, with unaffiliated entrants paying £2 extra.
The organiser has a partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and offers an option to set up fundraising or make a donation that is passed to the charity. An on demand option is offered so entrants can run the route on a different day and receive the event medal by post. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
