Keweenaw Ultramarathon
The Keweenaw Ultramarathon is a supported trail race held on the Michigan Technological University Tech Trails in Houghton, MI. The trailhead is located off the south side of Sharon Avenue across from Sherman Field.
Distances
- 50K: two loops, headlamp required for the first 1.5 hours.
- 25K: one loop.
The course is marked with neon flags on the right side; flags on the left indicate the wrong direction. Closed trails are marked with caution tape. A Strava route and a course overview image are available for planning.
Aid stations are located at miles 4.2 (6.8 km), 11.8 (19 km), 15.6 (25.1 km), 19.8 (31.9 km), and 27.4 (44.1 km). Stations provide water, drink mix, and typical ultra foods. All athletes must check in at every aid station by giving their bib number. After checking in at the trailhead aid station, runners may access personal gear in the community room, under the tent, or in their cars.
Bibs are picked up the morning of the race; 50K pickup is between 07:00 and 07:50 and 25K pickup is between 08:00 and 08:45. Pacers are not allowed. Runners cross Pilgrim Road with volunteer assistance but traffic will not be stopped.
Races are timed through UltraSignup with no live tracking. Time limits are enforced: 50K has an 8 hour cutoff and 25K has a 7 hour cutoff. Parking is at the main trailhead with overflow nearby. Keweenaw Ultramarathon Club shirts are sold during the event for $20. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
