About the race
The Keweenaw Ultramarathon is a trail race at the Michigan Technological University Tech Trails in Houghton, MI, held on November 7, 2026. The event offers two distances:
- 50K
- 25K
The 25K is one loop of the course and the 50K is two loops. The 50K requires a headlamp for the first 1.5 hours. The route is marked with neon flags on the right; flags on the left indicate the wrong direction. Closed trails are marked with caution tape.
The race is fully supported with aid stations at the main trailhead and at Nara. Aid stations occur at miles 4.2 (6.8 km), 11.8 (19 km), 15.6 (25.1 km), 19.8 (31.9 km), and 27.4 (44.1 km) and will provide water, drink mix, and typical ultra foods; athletes may also use their own supplies. All athletes must check in at every aid station by reporting their bib number.
Bibs may be picked up the evening before or the morning of the event. Drop bags and personal gear can be stored in the community room (wax building), under an outdoor tent, or in vehicles; access is allowed after checking in at the trailhead aid station.
Races are timed through UltraSignup; there is no live tracking. The 50K has an 8-hour cut-off and the 25K has a 7-hour cut-off; these limits are strictly enforced for safety. Pacers are not allowed. Runners will cross Pilgrim Road multiple times; an assistant will be present but traffic will not be stopped.
Merchandise t-shirts are sold during the event for $20 while supplies last. Awards are given to the top athlete in each distance and final results are published on UltraSignup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
