Iron X
Iron X is an extreme ironing race held in Auburn, CA on July 10, 2027, and organized by Skybreaker Racing. The event combines running a Half Marathon on a portion of the historic Western States Trail with staged ironing tasks at several Auburn locations.
Participants must wear a button-up or snap-up shirt for the event, remove it at each ironing location, iron it, and put it back on before continuing. Wearing another shirt underneath is permitted. The event is described as a fatass group run and will not have course markings, medical support, medals, trekking poles, or pacers.
Proof of completion requires a public activity link and geo-tagged photos or videos showing the ironist, the iron, the ironing board, and the location for each ironing stop. Photos or videos may be taken by another ironist or by a spectator crew that is present at the location; assisting in any other way is not allowed except as noted below. New in 2027 aid is allowed at the Foresthill Bridge ironing location and at the Statue and Train Car location; a moving drop bag may be left at the Start to service those two sites and crew may be present at those sites.
Each participant must carry their own ironing board, iron, fuel, and water. Boards must be at least 3 feet 3 inches long and 11 inches wide with full-length legs. Battery powered irons are required and the ironing face should measure at least 4 1/2 by 9 inches. A 10 minute penalty is added for each required iron that is not completed with the needed photo or video evidence. A GPX course file is available.
