Iron X
Iron X is an extreme ironing event held in Auburn, CA on July 10, 2027, organized by Skybreaker Racing. The event combines a half marathon run along a portion of the historic Western States Trail with on-course ironing at multiple public locations around Auburn.
Participants must wear a button-up or snap-up shirt throughout the event, remove it, iron it, and then put it back on at each specified location; wearing another shirt underneath is allowed. There are eight designated ironing spots, including locations at Robie Point, near No Hands Bridge in the river, the Foresthill Bridge area, a vehicle remains site called the Dead Car Iron, a statue and train car site in downtown Auburn, the Clock Tower, the historic courthouse parking area, and the Claude Chana statue in Old Town Auburn.
The event is organized as a fatass group run; there are no course markings, no medical support, no medals, no trekking poles allowed, and no pacers. Spectators may attend most ironing locations except the Dead Car Iron. New in 2027, aid and crew are allowed at the Foresthill Bridge Iron and the Statue and Train Car Iron, and a moving drop bag may be used to service those locations.
Completion requires post-event verification: a public activity link and geo-tagged photos or videos showing the participant, the iron, the board, and the location for each iron. Each participant must carry their own ironing board, battery-powered iron, fuel, and water; boards must meet specified minimum dimensions and have full-length legs. Failure to provide required evidence for a location incurs a ten minute time penalty per location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
