About the race

The Ilkley Skyline is a fell running event based on a route conceived in 2013. The main route is a 22 mile loop with 3000 ft elevation gain (35 km with 910 m), starting and finishing at The Hermit in Burley Woodhead. The loop passes Beamsley Beacon, Round Hill and summits along Burley Moor, Ilkley Moor and Rombalds Moor, and covers at least eight moors. Most of the route is on fell or field running terrain with short sections of road.

The longest road section is the climb up from the river at the stepping stones through Burley back to The Hermit. The event includes a number of checkpoints and two aid stations located at Addingham (14 km) and Timble (25 km). Navigation is unmarked; participants require a route map or GPX file to follow the route. GPX is allowed and a GPX route file is available.

The course is on publicly accessible land and recces are encouraged but not essential. A shorter option, the Ilkley Skyline Half, is a 21 km point to point from Addingham suspension bridge to The Hermit. Runners for the half are transported from The Hermit to Addingham once the Ilkley Skyline has started. Location and logistics notes are provided for The Hermit Inn, Moor Rd, Burley in Wharfedale LS29 7AS. Event parking is at Scalebor Car Park LS29 7SQ; there is no parking at The Hermit which is reserved for patrons.

Registration and finish take place outside The Hermit. Entry is listed at 25 GBP. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
