HOURGLASS - 26 June 2027

HOURGLASS is a last-person-standing running event held in and around the Royal Cornwall Events Centre. Competitors run repeated 2 mile laps on a course that mixes tarmac and grass and includes twists and turns.

The format uses a shrinking time limit. The first lap must be completed within 30 minutes; each subsequent lap reduces the allowed time by one minute. Runners who fail to finish a lap within the allocated time are eliminated. Completing 13 laps, with a lap time of 18 minutes, equals a marathon distance; further laps extend into ultramarathon territory.

Prizes are awarded to the last remaining male and female runners and to second and third place. The event places emphasis on pacing and strategy, as runners must decide how to balance effort across early and later laps.

Onsite facilities include food and beverage outlets, access to an indoor hall with toilets and showers, and massage services available before, during, or after the event. All finishers receive a bespoke medal. Event T-shirts and hoodies are available to pre-order for collection at the event and a small number may be sold on the day.

The event description notes the organiser will advise nearer the date about recommended footwear based on expected ground conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
