Hornindalsrokken Skyrace

Hornindalsrokken Skyrace is a mountain skyrace over 17.5 km with about 1300 m total elevation gain. The route starts at Horndøla bru and follows a gravel road to Hornindalssætra, then continues on rougher off road track into the valley and onto a marked trail toward Store Luka.

A key feature is Rokkeråsa, a 1.3 km section with 506 m of ascent and an average gradient of 38.8 percent. This section is technical, loose underfoot, and involves some scrambling. An aid station is located at the top of Rokkeråsa, approximately 6.4 km from the start.

After Rokkeråsa the course follows a ridge with a final 200 m of ascent to the summit of Hornindalsrokken at 1,526 m. The ridge and summit sections include exposed scrambling. The descent leads into Kjellstaddalen across alpine terrain and rocky slabs, includes a river crossing, then singletrack, a return to gravel, and a final road crossing to the finish at Trondstad Grendahus.

The direct ridge route is only used in good weather; in poor weather the course includes a short loop after Rokkeråsa before heading to the summit. There is a cut off at the top of Rokkeråsa; participants who do not pass this point will not be allowed to continue. Entry is limited to 200 start numbers and the minimum age to participate is 15 years.

Mandatory equipment includes trail shoes with good grip, a windproof jacket, warm buff or hat, gloves, an extra wool shirt, a small first aid kit, a whistle, a fully charged mobile phone, adequate water and nutrition, and a climbing harness with a locking carabiner if the direct ridge route will be used.

The organizer may alter or cancel the race for safety reasons. Photographs and video taken by official photographers and media crews may be used afterwards for documentation and promotion.
