Hook Mountain Ultra

The Hook Mountain Ultra is a trail running event held in Upper Nyack, New York. Sanctioned by USATF, the race takes place within Rockland Lake State Park and the surrounding trail networks. The course features a variety of terrain including technical singletrack, exposed ridges, steep descents, and sections of runnable gravel. Participants can choose between two primary distances:

  • 50 Mile
  • Marathon (25 Mile)

The 50 Mile race consists of four consecutive 12.3-mile loops, following an initial road section to separate the field. Each loop includes approximately 2,400 feet of elevation gain, totaling roughly 9,600 feet for the full distance. The Marathon option covers two of these loops for a total elevation gain of approximately 4,800 feet. The course utilizes several local trails, including the Long Path Trail, the Treason Trail, and the Summit Trail, and offers views along the Hudson River and from the summit of Hook Mountain.

There are three aid stations positioned along each loop, located at the Haverstraw Trailhead, Nyack Beach, and Landing Road. These stations provide water, hydration mix, and gels. Aid Station #3 at Landing Road serves as the main hub where runners can access personal drop bags and meet with crew members. A total time limit of 14 hours is enforced for the event, with an additional 7-hour cutoff at the halfway point for the 50 Mile participants.

Parking is available at Rockland Lake State Park, Parking Field #2, which serves as the start and finish area. While trekking poles are permitted, pacers are not allowed for this event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
