About the race

The Hook Mountain Ultra is a trail running event in Upper Nyack, NY scheduled for September 19, 2026. It offers two course options:

  • 50 mile
  • 27 mile (marathon)

The 50 mile course has approximately 9,700 feet of elevation gain and uses a format of a 4 mile out and back followed by four consecutive 11.5 mile loops that gain about 2,431 feet per loop. The 27 mile option follows the same initial out and back and then two consecutive 11.5 mile loops for roughly 4,900 feet of elevation gain. Each loop starts and finishes at the Nyack Beach State Park trailhead and begins with a 1.6 mile climb to the summit of Hook Mountain.

The route combines riverfront bike path, singletrack on the Palisades ridge, exposed ridgelines, runnable gravel sections, and steep technical descents such as the Treason Trail. There are three aid stations on the 11.5 mile loop positioned roughly every 3 to 4.5 miles; they are stocked with water, sports drink, and energy gels. Personal drop bags may be stored at Aid Station #1. Bathrooms and a water fountain are available near the Nyack Beach parking lot.

Crewing is permitted only at Aid Station #2 due to parking limits. The event has a 14 hour overall cut-off and a 7 hour cut-off at mile 27 for 50 mile entrants. Race organizers have arranged parking and optional overnight lodging at Marydell Faith & Life Center near the start area, including cabins that sleep up to four adults with a private bathroom for $95 per night. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
