Hook Mountain Ultra

The Hook Mountain Ultra is a USATF-sanctioned trail running event in Upper Nyack, NY offering two distance options: a 50 mile race and a 27 mile mountain marathon. The 50 mile course has approximately 9,700 feet of elevation gain and the 27 mile option has about 4,900 feet of elevation gain.

The format begins with a 4 mile out-and-back to spread the field, followed by repeated 11.5 mile loops. Fifty mile entrants complete four consecutive 11.5 mile loops that each gain about 2,431 feet. Marathon entrants complete two consecutive 11.5 mile loops after the initial out-and-back. Each loop starts and finishes at the Nyack Beach State Park trailhead and begins with a 1.6 mile climb to the summit of Hook Mountain. The route includes singletrack ridgelines, exposed sections, runnable gravel, technical descents, and river trail segments.

The event uses a 14 hour overall cut-off. Fifty mile runners also face a 7 hour cut-off at mile 27; participants who do not finish within the cut-offs are recorded as DNF.

Three aid stations are positioned on the 11.5 mile loop and are passed every 3 to 4.5 miles. Aid stations provide water, sports drink, and energy gels. Personal drop bags can be left at Aid Station 1. Crewing is allowed only at Aid Station 2 due to parking limitations; that aid station is located at 88 Landing Road, Valley Cottage, NY.
