About the race
The Hillbilly Hustle takes place at Westwood Lake Park in Nanaimo and uses the trail network of Te'tuxwtun (Mount Benson). The event offers in-person trail races in three distances and began as a virtual community event during the pandemic.
Distances
- 50 km course with 2800 m elevation gain, summiting Te'tuxw'tun twice.
- 35 km course following much of the 50 km route and summiting once.
- 17 km course with about 1000 m of elevation gain.
The 50 km course runs over a variety of terrain including single track, double track, service road and open rock bluffs. The 50 km route has five aid stations at 8 km, 19 km, 25 km, 32 km and 39 km; drop bags are available at the 32 km aid station. Due to remote aid station locations there is no crew access on course except for a hike in option to the summit aid station.
Aid station cutoffs are listed for each course. The 17 km course has an overall cutoff of 8 hours. Registration opens December 1, 2026. Early bird and regular pricing tiers are published with different fees for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
