Highdown Hike

Highdown Hike takes place at Worthing Rugby Football Club (WRFC) and features a senior mixed-terrain route and a separate junior race around the club pitches. The senior route is just over five miles and includes grass, trail, road, chalky tracks and hills. The route is available on Plotaroute and on the Worthing Striders website.

  • just over 5 miles mixed terrain
  • 1.2 km (0.8 miles) junior loop around WRFC pitches

Race headquarters at WRFC offers toilets, showers and changing facilities, plus on-site parking. After the event there is a BBQ, a cake stall and a bar. Catering is provided with stated hygiene standards. Drinking water is available at the finish area with disposable cups.

The junior Highdown Hike follows a marked, flat route on club pitches and is shorter than the senior course. Participants must be between 4 and 15 years old. Parents or guardians are recommended to accompany children under 7. Medals are awarded to all junior participants. Officials will guide juniors to the start area and advise parents to wait at the finish and collection area.

Safety measures include marshals at turning points, a sweeper to follow the last participant, on-site medical support with first aiders and a response vehicle, and a lost or injured child procedure. The race remains within the WRFC grounds. Appropriate footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Race officials are available at the race office for enquiries and emergencies.
