High Peak 40 Challenge

The High Peak 40 Challenge is an ultramarathon covering 40 miles in the Peak District, with both the start and finish in Buxton. The route uses a mix of trails, footpaths and roads and passes through a series of named locations and features in the area.

Runners follow a course that goes through Goyt Valley, past Eccles Pike, over and through Mam Tor, and through Cave Dale. The route continues via Tideswell and the Monsal Trail, includes a climb out of a Deep Dale, a lengthy road section to Chelmorten and then an entry and exit of another Deep Dale.

After an eight year hiatus the event returned in 2024. The next scheduled edition will mark the event's 40th year anniversary on Saturday 19 September 2026. The event is presented with supporting information and a historical archive of documents and images from past editions. The event is also accredited by sheraces.
