Heptonstall Fell Race

The Heptonstall Fell Race is a Category BL fell race around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The route covers 25 kilometres and passes steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. The race is started on the ancient cobbled main street and registration is in the adjacent church; the start includes a welcome and blessing from the local vicar.

Runners will negotiate grassy slopes, stretches of bog, thick heather, dense woodland and open moorland. The course offers wide views across the South Pennines.

The event is organised as a not for profit community race. Proceeds are donated to local groups including Scouts, Guides, the Church, Mountain Rescue and CROWs. Event parking is provided in a nearby field at HX7 7EU for a fee of £1, with proceeds donated to local groups.

FRA rules apply and full FRA kit is required. Required kit includes full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Entrants must be 18 or over on the day. Entry fee is £15. Entries open on 9 January 2027 and close on 19 March 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
