Hells Hills Trail Race
Hells Hills Trail Race takes place at Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville, Texas. The event offers multiple trail distances on single-track trails with bridges, stream crossings, pine trees, and spring wildflowers. The course features many short, steep rollers rather than long sustained climbs, with a few stretches suitable for longer strides.
Distances:
- 50 mile
- 50K
- 25K
- 10K
- 25K Ruck
- 10K Ruck
- Youth 1 mile
Course details note that the 50K and 50 mile routes use repeated laps (the 50K is two laps of about 15.5 miles; the 50 mile is roughly three laps). The course is well marked with orange caution tape, yellow arrow signs, and numerous confidence markers; many markings include reflectors for low light. The event is cupless, so participants must carry a cup or bottle; collapsible cups are available for purchase at packet pickup.
On-course support includes two full aid stations, the start/finish "Saloon" station, a self-support station on the far side of the loop, and a temporary 10K aid point. Supplies are generally available every 2.8 to 4.5 miles. Drop bags are allowed in the start/finish area but there is no secured storage. Camping is available onsite at Rocky Hill Ranch.
Ruck entries have mandatory weights by participant weight, mandatory weigh-ins, and rules about pack placement and prohibited equipment. Pacers and award categories follow the posted event rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
