Hell Creek Half & 50k
The Hell Creek Half & 50k is a trail race organized by Ultraverse Supplements on August 21, 2027 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas. The event uses the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail at Wilson State Park with start and finish at the Switchgrass trail head in the Hell Creek area. GPS coordinates are N38°54.965 W98°30.549.
Distances
- 50k approximately 32 miles via a 19 mile loop plus the half marathon loop
- 1/2 Marathon a roughly 13 mile loop including an initial 1/3 mile on pavement
Course and elevation The course is single track, rugged yet described as fully runnable, with sparse tree cover and frequent views of Wilson State Park and Wilson Lake. Elevation change is listed at about 3000 ft total gain and loss for the 50k and about 1300 ft for the half marathon. The 50k uses a loop similar to a longer Hell Creek loop with one mile removed from a 20 mile segment.
Aid, markings, and logistics The course will be heavily marked. There are two staffed aid stations at the start/finish and Hell Hill, plus unmanned water and Proxima C fuel stations near mile 5 and around mile 13 on the Hell Creek Loop. Drop bags are allowed at Hell Hill and at start/finish.
Rules and other notes Cutoff for both races is 5:00 PM. Pacers are not allowed. Crew may assist only at the start/finish. Minimum age is 16 with a guardian waiver required for runners under 18. State park day or annual pass is required. No refunds or bib transfers; a credit policy provides 100% credit within 60 days, 50% within 30 days, 25% within 14 days, and no credit less than 14 days.
