Hazeldean Valley Scatter Run Orienteering
The event is a scatter run or "Rogaine" style orienteering competition held at Hazeldean Valley Trails in Pretoria, Gauteng. Participants use a map and may use a compass to visit as many checkpoints as possible within a chosen time limit. Points are earned for checkpoints and deducted for each minute overdue.
Entries are available for three time-limited courses. Each entry includes an orienteering map and SPORTident electronic timing chip hire.
- 150 minute course : solo or teams of 2, 3 or 4
- 90 minute course : solo or teams of 2, 3 or 4
- 60 minute course : solo or teams of 2, 3 or 4
The area consists mostly of open terrain, with some thicker undergrowth and wooded sections. There is a network of roads, tracks and paths; navigation ranges from moderate to tricky in places. Competitors should plan routes and manage time to maximise points and return before the limit.
Facilities include toilets near the parking and start area. Refreshments will be available at Hazeldean Brewery. Limited water will be available on course, so entrants should arrange to carry their own water for the duration of the event.
The area is used by permission of Hazeldean Valley Trails. Final instructions will be sent to entered participants on Friday 2 October. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
