Hare Challenge : Coombe Abbey Park
The Hare Challenge is a six hour trail event held at Coombe Abbey Park, CV3 2AB, using a new winter route on the park. The course is a 3.3 mile lap that runs mainly on stone pathways with a meadow section on open grassland; the winter route bypasses the closed meadow (October to April) and uses an alternative section that may become muddy in wet weather.
Participants decide their own distance by completing as many laps as they wish within the six hour limit. A marathon requires eight laps and a half marathon four laps on the 3.3 mile circuit. The format accommodates running, hiking and rucking.
Facilities at the venue include parking (costs up to £5 depending on duration), a cafe and a toilet block next to the event headquarters. The park sits on the outskirts of Coventry and is near Junction 2 of the M6; the closest train station is Coventry.
Entry fees follow a tiered structure: before 09/02/2027 the entry fee is £38, thereafter it is £43; unaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Entrants may opt to raise funds or make a donation for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity during sign up. Dogs and canicross are not permitted at this event due to possible sheep in the fields. A GPX of the route is available and the organisers offer a choice of a medal or an Earth Runs tree token in place of a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
