Happy Chinese New Year Run
The Happy Chinese New Year run is a self-supported event held in San Diego, California. This "fat ass" style run takes place at PQ Canyon Trail and follows a single loop format. The route covers approximately 51 miles with roughly 5,000 feet of elevation gain and loss across local trails.
Participants are responsible for their own navigation and logistics, as the course is not marked. There are no fees, awards, or provided aid stations. Runners must be prepared to carry their own supplies or plan for self-resupply along the way. While there is no official support, the course passes several landmarks where water fountains or restrooms may be available, including Old Pomerado Road, Garden Road Neighborhood Park, and Lake Hodges Visitor Center.
There are also commercial options for food and water near the midpoint of the route, such as gas stations on Via Rancho Parkway and the Paradise Produce Market near Del Dios Road. For the 2027 event, the course is intended to be completed in a clockwise direction.

The start and finish area is located at the Canyonside Park Driveway. Because this is a self-managed run, participants are encouraged to use GPS files or navigation apps to stay on the correct path. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
