Halswell Quarry Orienteering
Halswell Quarry Orienteering offers a range of orienteering courses at Halswell Quarry with mapped courses for different navigation skills. Five courses are available, with approximate lengths and navigation difficulty as listed below.
- White : Very short, about 1.5 km
- Yellow : Short, about 1.8 km
- Orange : Medium, about 3.1 km
- Short Red : Medium, about 3.7 km
- Medium Red : Long, about 5.0 km
Navigation difficulty ranges from very easy on the White course to very hard on the Short Red and Medium Red courses. Climb is described as minimal across all courses. New participants are advised to choose White (families and children) or Yellow (adults) for a first event. Additional maps can be taken for a fee of $2 per map.
Pre-entry is preferred and closes on Wednesday 23rd September; limited enter-on-the-day places will be available at non-member prices. Standard PAPO costs apply and family entries allow accompanying adults to go free when registering juniors only. Payment for entries is by card via the event entry system. Sportident electronic timing will be used with Air mode enabled; standard SI sticks and SI Air+ units are available for hire. SI Air+ hire must be arranged at pre-entry. Standard SI hire for $2 is recommended for those new to the sport.
Parking is at the main Halswell Quarry carpark accessed from Kennedy's Bush Road. Dogs under effective control are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
