About the race
The Aotearoa Ultra Marathon is set for 9 January 2027 on Banks Peninsula and finishing in Christchurch. The event uses trails and roads across the peninsula and finishes at Halswell Quarry in Christchurch.
Three event distances are offered:
- 101 km with 4055 m of elevation
- 53 km with 2278 m of elevation
- 15 km warm up with 484 m of elevation
The 101 km course starts at Little River Domain and passes Western Valley Road, Port Levy, Pigeon Bay, the Summit Road and Mt Herbert before reaching Halswell Quarry. That event is available for solo runners or as a team of two, with a team change at Pigeon Bay producing segments of roughly 48 km and 53 km.
The 53 km course runs from Pigeon Bay to Halswell Quarry and is available for solo runners or teams of two, with a team change at Port Levy Spur Car Park creating segments of about 22 km and 31 km.
The 15 km warm up goes from Gebbies Pass to Halswell Quarry and is for solo runners.
Routes traverse coastal bays, forest tracks and summit roads, offering views across Akaroa and Lyttelton Harbours and terrain shaped by local volcanoes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
