Hades Hill Fell Race
Hades Hill is usually the final evening fell race of the season. The route begins with a steep uphill section, then levels out before a rollercoaster-style route over Brown Wardle, Middle Hill and Hades Hill, returning to a field finish above the start.
Race headquarters are at the Red Lion PH, The Square, Whitworth, OL12 8PY. The course distance is 8 km with 360 m of ascent and is classed as Category BS. A cut off is enforced for safety: anyone not reaching the top of Brown Wardle (SD 89842 18684) within 24 minutes of the race start will be retired; this point is about 1.3 miles and 550 ft of climb from the start.
Runners must carry mandatory FRA kit: waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and integrated hood, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. Organisers may decide on the day whether to relax the kit requirements.
Entries are limited to 200 and the minimum age is 18. Online entry fees for 2026 are shown as £7.44 for FRA members and £9.44 for non members; on the day fees (subject to availability) are listed as £8 for FRA members and £10 for non members.
