About the race
Grindleford Gallop marks its 30th anniversary on Saturday 13 March 2027. The event covers approximately 34-35 km with around 825-850 m of ascent and links a number of Peak District villages and high moorland.
The course passes through Grindleford, Froggatt, Eyam, Great Longstone, Edensor and Baslow, using paths, tracks and open moorland. Notable features on the route include Riley Graves, Longstone Moor, the Monsal Trail and Chatsworth Park estate. The final high-level section runs along Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt edges and provides elevated views of the surrounding landscape.
The route is marshalled at important interchanges and most control points are manned. Elsewhere the course is only partially marked; some sections cannot be waymarked because of landowner restrictions. Participants are advised to be familiar with the course and to carry a map; use of GPS devices or a watch route map is permitted. The course is a fixed route between controls and short cuts are not allowed.
The race is organised entirely by volunteers and raises money for Grindleford Primary School, with remaining donations allocated to the pre school, mountain rescue, the National Trust and the Peak District National Park. Entries open 10 November 2026 and close 12 March 2027. Minimum age is 16 and the entry fee is £27.
