Great Glen Ultra Marathon 42 (Short Course) : 3 July 2027
The Great Glen Ultra Short Course is a 42 miles foot race along the Great Glen Way between Fort Augustus and Inverness. The route follows the Great Glen Way High Route and runs past Loch Ness to Drumnadrochit before descending to the finish at Inverness Sports Centre, which includes a lap of a 400m track. Total ascent is listed as 6,000 ft. The event carries UTMB points 2 subject to confirmation.
The race is for solo runners and is designed to be unsupported. Drop bags are provided at three checkpoints located at approximately 10 miles (Invermoriston), 24.5 miles (Drumnadrochit) and 32 miles (Abriachan). Spectators are permitted only at Invermoriston, Drumnadrochit and the finish; meeting runners at Abriachan is prohibited and may lead to disqualification. The course is fully waymarked with Great Glen waymarks and arrow signs.
All runners travel to the start by race bus from Inverness Sport Centre and register at the sports centre before transfer. Runners should bring three numbered drop bags and a separate kit bag to be transported back to the finish. A 15 hour cut off applies.
Race rules and mandatory kit apply. Mandatory items include a full-size foil blanket, a working mobile phone and a means to carry at least 1 litre of water; spot-checks will be carried out.
