About the race
The Gear Western Country Half Marathon and Borton Volvo 5k is a fall road and trail event hosted by Gear West. The race setting highlights Minnesota autumn scenery, including quiet country roads, rolling hills, lakes, seasonal colors and crushed limestone trails. The event offers two distances:
- Half marathon
- 5k
The finish area features a Western themed celebration with music, warm post race refreshments and an awards presentation that recognizes overall top finishers, five year age groups and special spirit prizes such as best Western outfit and a Red Lantern award. Race merchandise has included a cozy crew neck sweatshirt offered as an optional purchase; recent changes lowered the entry fee while keeping the sweatshirt available for an extra cost. All finishers receive a small rugged prize.
The event is family friendly: dogs on leash and strollers are allowed, and participants can stay warm inside the Gear West store before the start. A corporate and group discount program is available for groups of 10 or more, with group pricing, organizer perks and a spirit prize for the most spirited group. Packet pickup and race day registration are offered in the days surrounding the event. Course maps are provided for both distances. The race takes place in October 2026.
