About the race
The GBP Winter Trail Series is a three-race winter trail series held on the third Saturday of December, January and February at the Galisteo Basin Preserve near Santa Fe, NM. Each race offers two course lengths and an in-person option plus a virtual option for the month of each race; virtual participants do not need to run at the preserve to earn a finisher award. Distances - The Hare: 3.5 miles and 7 miles - The Goat: 4.25 miles and 8.5 miles - The Coyote: 6.6 miles and 13.1 miles Course information includes mapped routes available via AllTrails, well marked trails for in-person races, and a loop format where the longer distance repeats the loop in the reverse direction. Long-course runners must meet first-loop cutoffs to continue to the second loop; failing to meet the cutoff results in being recorded as a short-distance finisher. Facilities at the Cowboy Shack Trailhead for in-person races include porty-potties, water and electrolytes, hot beverages and snacks in the race village, blankets, fire pits and first-aid.
Timing is professionally chip based with a gun start; bibs must be worn on the front and visible. Individuals who complete all three races, virtual or in-person, receive a series finisher award and series registrants before December 1 receive a custom tech shirt. Top series finisher awards are available in-person only and require completion of all three races in the same course length.
All profits support Commonweal Conservancy and its stewardship of the preserve. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
