Ganondagan Canicross & Dog-Friendly Race
The Ganondagan Canicross and Dog-Friendly Trail Races are scheduled for October 17, 2026, at the Historic Ganondagan Site in Victor, New York. The event offers two trail race options: a canine-powered Canicross 5K and a Dog-Friendly 5K open to runners and walkers with or without dogs. A vendor market will be present on site.
Participants receive a finisher medal (and a medal for participating dogs), a goodie bag that includes items for both human and dog, and a chip-timed bib. Awards are given to the top three female and top three male finishers in each race, and to the top three female and male finishers in five-year age divisions.
Canicross entries must use a non-restrictive dog harness, a hands-free waist belt for the runner, and a bungee line connecting dog and runner; dogs should run ahead or alongside the runner. Dog-Friendly 5K rules require leashes only (no retractable leashes or leashes longer than 6 ft) and prohibit head collars while running. The event enforces a no-greet policy between dogs, requires dogs to be leashed and under control on the grounds except in the designated dog park, and places responsibility for dog behavior on the handler. Basket muzzles are allowed if they permit full panting.
The course is 5K over grass, dirt, roots, and hills, mostly doubletrack with a single uphill singletrack section, and a water/aid station is located about halfway. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
