Ganondagan Canicross and Dog-Friendly 5K Trail Race
This event takes place on October 17, 2026 at the Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY. It is presented as an inaugural canicross and dog-friendly trail race and vendor event on historic grounds.
There are two race options, both 5K: a Canicross 5K Trail Race for dog-powered trail running and a Dog-Friendly 5K Trail Race open to runners and walkers with or without dogs. Registration opens July 28, 2026 and closes August 31, 2026; the registration fee for each race is $35.00. Each participant receives a chip-timed bib, a finisher medal (a medal is also provided for participating dogs), and a goodie bag containing items for both runner and dog.
Canicross participants must use a non-restrictive harness for their dog, a hands-free waist belt for the runner, and a bungee line connecting dog and runner. Dogs in canicross should run ahead or alongside the runner rather than behind. Dog-friendly race rules require leashes no longer than 6 feet, no retractable leashes, and no head collars while running.
The event enforces a no-greet policy between dogs, requires dogs to be leashed and under control on the grounds except in the designated dog park, and allows basket muzzles that permit full panting. A portion of proceeds will support a local dog rescue and the Ganondagan site. The race will proceed rain or shine unless extreme weather requires delay or a switch to a virtual format.
