Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra : Mabou, NS
Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra is scheduled for September 25, 2027, at 220 Angus Archie Rd, Mabou, Nova Scotia, Canada. The event is presented as Canada's first "vertical" backyard ultra.
Participants complete repeated loops of about 4 km that include an ascent and descent of 370 m each lap. The standard backyard ultra rules apply: every runner has one hour to complete each loop. Trekking poles are permitted.
Free camping at the start and finish is available for runners and crew during the event (Friday, Saturday and Sunday+). Water and Tailwind will be provided throughout the event.
The published registration fee is CA$94.04 and includes race swag, insurance, and a CA$10 donation to the Mabou food bank; CA$10 from every registration will be donated to that food bank. Prize payouts list CA$750 for the winner and CA$250 for the assist, with a minimum of 20 loops required for payout.
The event materials include loop comparisons by total vertical gain: one loop exceeds PEI high point 142 m; two loops exceed the high points of Nova Scotia and Ontario at 693 m; four loops exceed Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan at 1392 m; eight loops exceed Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut and Northwest Territories at 2773 m; eleven loops exceed Alberta at 3747 m; thirteen loops exceed British Columbia at 4673 m; seventeen loops exceed the height of Mount Logan in Yukon at 5956 m.
