Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra
Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra takes place on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 220 Angus Archie Rd, Mabou, Nova Scotia. The event is presented as Canada's first "vertical" backyard ultra and uses a loop of about 4 km with 370 m of elevation gain and loss per lap. Participants have one hour to complete each loop and the standard backyard ultra rules apply, so runners repeat the loop every hour until they stop.
Free camping is available at the start and finish for runners and crew. Water and Tailwind will be provided throughout the event. The listed registration fee is CA$94.04 and includes race swag, insurance, and a CA$10 donation to the Mabou food bank. Monetary prizes are listed as CA$750 for the winner and CA$250 for the assist.
A volunteer option is offered at no cost; volunteers who complete a 6 to 8 hour shift are offered a free entry into the 2027 event. The organizer also highlights cumulative vertical comparisons: one loop exceeds the high point of Prince Edward Island, multiple loops accumulate to elevations above several provincial high points and, at higher loop counts, approach the elevation of Mount Logan.
